Lazy Dog, Southlands Mall, Aurora, CO

I typically have low expectations for chain restaurants. Most are passable and the food is middle of the road. Ana and I went to the Lazy Dog Restaurant in Aurora (50+ locations around the country) and this one is anything but middle of the road. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was great and we could not have been happier with our plates. We started with the best edamame I've every had. Specifically, it's called Togarashi Edamame Beans, and it consists of sea salt, chili flakes, orange peel, garlic, ginger, black pepper. It's a must get small plate and really set the tone for a great meal. We followed that with the chicken lettuce wraps and the sesame Ahi tuna and both were excellently prepared. Every last dish was superb and had the feel of a gourmet restaurant, not a chain. We sat at the bar, which was packed on a Sunday afternoon, which tells you a lot about the place. And, to top it off, Ana had the best Mojito she has ever had. Booyah! If you are ever in the Southlands Mall and in need of a meal, this is the place to go.

THE STATS:

Atmosphere: It's sort of like mountain lodge chic. Lots of exposed beams with vaulted ceilings. Super inviting and the large Sunday afternoon crowd created a nice buzz. The large wrap around bar was super comfortable and hopping.

When to go: We love brunch here and it's great for dinner as well. If you are into Happy Hour, they have it 3-6pm and 9pm-12 midnight

What to wear: Pretty much just wear what's comfortable. It's an easy going kinda place.

What to eat: I highly recommend the Togarashi Edamame Beans. Besides that, you will find a great selection of all kinds of classic American fare.
